My paintings are ideas, and my sculptures are consequences

As I explore the relationship between my paintings and sculptures, I think about John Chilver stating “painting projects a virtual elsewhere.” The fragility of my washi paintings expresses intangible daydreams while I contrast them with the concrete reality of objects and space. The painting is the utopia, while the installations are the consequence. The painting is the beauty in the fleeting moment and a window offering the viewer into a reimagined realm expanding the physical spaces in which it occupies.   Inspired by the wear and tear of buildings and natural aged landscapes, my colour palettes are projected onto the canvas as idealised fragments rendering their fleeting state static. I ‘heritagise’ these colours that are otherwise ever-changing on buildings and natural landscapes where their usages and meanings always evolve.
