Garden Maintenance 2023

Rusted rebar, rice grains, hempcrete, lichen, metal, PVC corrugated roofing sheet
2m x 2.8m x 2.8m

I explore the blurred boundaries within our daily lives through the interplay of identity and architecture. What appears to vaguely be a dry rock garden, are meticulously arranged grains of rice instead of traditional pebbles. The installation takes on an uncanny quality, subverting the expected by challenging what is meant by authenticity and highlighting our innate desire to preserve a world that is in constant flux. The hempcrete boulders, rather than their natural counterparts, are paired with industrial rebar which both paradoxically safeguards and encloses the serene oasis.
